GEMMA HUMET

Gemma Humet is said to be one of the voices with the most light and personality on the current Catalan music scene. She is one of the artists who has most clearly impregnated her work with the essence of the old singer-songwriter and protest song, fusing it, lately, with electronic sounds and a new universe of sound (under the guidance of Jordi Casadesús). Whether as a soloist, accompanying the mythical guitar of Toti Soler, touring Catalonia and different European countries with her own project or collaborating on more than 30 recordings (with artists of the stature of Lluís Llach, Joan Manuel Serrat, Kepa Junkera and Txarango, among others).

Gemma Humet has proved to be one of the most committed and versatile voices of recent times.

What is your relationship with nature?

I've always been a city person but for the last few years I've been living in a village in Central Catalonia in Osona, surrounded by fields, forests, mountains..., and I love feeling that I have all these things right next to my home. Seeing how the seasons change and the colours of the landscape change at the same time is beautiful.

Favourite flower?

I don't know why, I guess it reminds me of all the summers of my life in the Empordà, but my favourite flower is the sunflower.

What inspires you when you compose?

Above all in my experiences, what I feel..., but also what I listen to, what you tell me, what I read, current events.... For me, the most important thing to be able to compose is to live, not to stand still, for things to happen.

What made you become a singer and did you always want to do it?

I have never considered doing anything other than something artistic (music or musical theatre). I have always sung, and I have always known that I wanted to be on stage. In my family, except for my mother, we are all musicians (my father and my three brothers) and I have never contemplated a plan B.

What colours or patterns do you identify with?

The only print I feel identified with is the floral one, otherwise I'm quite a fan of plain colours. I'm very black and beige, but I love tile and greens too.

How would you define your style?

I think my style is very "normal, very casual, jeans and t-shirts, flower dresses in the summer....

Favourite garment from our collection?

The AUGE  russet jumpsuit I've kept. It is beautiful.

What points do you find in common between your profession and fashion?

To begin with, everything is artistic, everything starts from inspiration. And music and fashion complement each other, they feed off each other. Depending on what you want to transmit in your live shows, in your video clips... you will dress in one way or another. As in life...

What would your perfect Sunday look like?

Doing something quiet with my children and my family or friends. Without having to run, having all the peace and quiet in the world, and if I have to ask for it, I want it to be on the beach.
